The end result of the 1860 election was Abraham Lincoln (republican against slavery) becoming president. As you can see on the map, the union (red) had more free states than the Confederate (light blue). The majority of the people in the South voted for Breckenridge because he was pro-slavery; he ended up with 72 electoral votes, where Lincoln had 180. There were many slavery based events that lead up to the end result of this election, for example bleeding Kansas. In class we made a video showing how each event affected the states. We were given five images from a website that had civil war art. Each of the images gave information on how that topic related to the 1860 election. The South was not pleased with this election, and thus lead America into the civil war.

How Slavery affected the 1860 election
